Southwest Airlines, the largest low-cost carrier in the United States, has made significant changes to its network amid financial challenges. The airline, known for its strong presence in leisure markets such as Orlando and Las Vegas, has adjusted its operations in Florida. Despite not being a base, Southwest maintains several routes with higher frequency at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

The airline recently cut service to several cities including Bellingham International Airport, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Syracuse Hancock International Airport, and Cozumel International Airport. "According to ESPN Southwest Florida," these destinations are no longer accessible from Fort Myers via Southwest flights.

Southwest's business model includes high flight frequencies in key markets to provide customers with more options. For instance, it offers eight daily flights between San Diego and Oakland. However, leisure destinations like Fort Myers have lower demand for frequent business travel.
