Reno–Tahoe International Airport serves as a crucial hub for travelers visiting both the city of Reno and the nearby Lake Tahoe area. Despite its smaller size, the airport offers a range of flights, including several long-haul routes that exceed 1,300 miles.

According to data from Cirium, in December alone, there are approximately 4,000 flights scheduled at Reno–Tahoe International. Among these, seven routes stand out for their length, collectively accounting for over 425 flights during the month. These routes connect Reno with six cities, one of which is international: New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Guadalajara, Houston, and Dallas.

The longest route is to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), stretching 2,411 miles. JetBlue operates this route exclusively using Airbus A220-300 aircraft configured with 140 seats. Flights are offered twice weekly and follow a redeye schedule from Reno to New York.

JetBlue did not operate this service year-round but had periods of operation between January and March and then resumed from June through August before starting again in December. In total for 2024, JetBlue scheduled 244 flights on this route.

Another significant route connects Reno with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Delta Air Lines operates this daily service using Boeing 757 aircraft on a flight path measuring 1,993 miles. Delta relaunched this route in June after previously discontinuing it in 2022.

United Airlines maintains two long-distance routes from Reno: one to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) at 1,671 miles and another to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston at 1,530 miles. Both routes use United's Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Internationally, Volaris connects Reno with Guadalajara’s Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (GDL), covering a distance of 1,631 miles. This service runs five times weekly throughout December using Airbus A320neos.

Southwest Airlines flies between Reno and Dallas Love Field (DAL), spanning 1,356 miles. The airline utilizes various aircraft models within its fleet for these operations.

Lastly, American Airlines offers frequent service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), which is the busiest among the long-haul options from Reno despite being the shortest at 1,345 miles.

Mike Larragueta of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority remarked on the importance of these connections: "This route is more than just a flight; it’s a gateway for visitors from Mexico to experience all that Reno-Tahoe has to offer... It also gives our community direct access to the incredible heritage and opportunities in Guadalajara."

These long-distance services reflect an extensive network available at Reno–Tahoe International Airport despite its smaller size compared to major airports nationwide.
