The Boeing 787-9 is the most popular variant of Boeing's 'Dreamliner' family, with more than half of the series' deliveries. Boeing has delivered 639 units of the 787-9, surpassing the combined total of both the 787-8 and 787-10 models.

The aircraft's balance between capacity and range makes it appealing to various airlines, including legacy carriers and low-cost operators. Many airlines have opted for seating configurations that emphasize economy class. Here are five airlines with high-density economy configurations on their Boeing 787-9s.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) stands out with two active aircraft featuring 377 economy seats and three others with 347. "According to current fleet data made available by ch-aviation, the current 787-9 operator with the most seats onboard is the Star Alliance member and 787-8 launch customer All Nippon Airways." These planes serve domestic routes in Japan where passenger volumes demand high-capacity aircraft.

Italian carrier Neos Air offers another example with its Boeing 787-9 configuration. Two planes have a layout of 327 economy class seats without business class but include premium economy recliners. "Thousands of miles away in mainland Europe, the next-highest number of economy class seats on a Boeing 787-9 can be found at Italian carrier Neos Air."

Norse Atlantic Airways has pursued low-cost long-haul travel using its Boeing 787-9s. One configuration includes 309 economy seats while another has fewer at 282, adding more premium economy recliners instead. The airline operates several aircraft under these layouts: "Norse Atlantic Airways - Five aircraft with the 282/56 layout, two with 309/35 (both on lease to Neos Air)."

Air Europa utilizes two configurations for its fleet of fifteen Boeing 787-9s, which vary slightly in their seating arrangements for operational flexibility. "Air Europa is another example of a modern-day European Boeing 787-9 operator that favors high-density economy-heavy seating configurations."

Lastly, Juneyao Air from China features a single configuration across its eight Boeing 787-9s that includes a total of 295 economy seats arranged nine abreast.

These airlines demonstrate diverse approaches to maximizing passenger capacity within their fleets while accommodating different market demands and route structures.
