A United Airlines Boeing 757-300 experienced an inflight emergency over the weekend, leading to a diversion to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The aircraft was en route from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when smoke was reportedly detected in the cabin. The flight crew made the decision to divert shortly after.

The incident occurred on December 28th, with Flight UA2225 taking off from Chicago at 09:13, two minutes ahead of schedule. After climbing and reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft began its descent toward Albuquerque around 11:23 MST. It landed safely on runway 3 at approximately 11:42.

United Airlines issued a statement confirming the emergency declaration due to "possible smoke in the cabin." They assured that "the aircraft landed normally and was briefly inspected by emergency crews," and arranged for another plane to transport passengers to their destination later that evening.

The affected aircraft remained grounded in Albuquerque for nearly a day before being ferried to Los Angeles International Airport. Meanwhile, United deployed another Boeing 757-300 from Denver International Airport to continue Flight UA2225's journey. This replacement flight departed Denver at around 14:45 and arrived in Phoenix about six hours behind schedule.

Flight UA2225 had all seats occupied with six crew members onboard during the incident. The original aircraft involved is a 21-year-old model registered as N57857.
