Icelandair and ITA Airways have announced a new codeshare agreement, allowing customers to travel seamlessly across both airlines' networks. This collaboration will enable passengers to book flights starting December 18, 2024, with travel commencing on January 20, 2025.

The initial phase of the agreement will connect Iceland with several Italian destinations via Rome, including Bologna, Florence, Venice, and Naples. Passengers will benefit from traveling on a single ticket and having their baggage checked through to their final destination.

Plans are in place to expand the partnership next year by adding more codeshare routes through mutual European gateways. Icelandair currently operates daily flights to Milan and Rome during the summer and has announced an increase in winter flights to Rome with four weekly services.

Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair, expressed satisfaction with the new partnership: “We are very pleased to welcome ITA into our esteemed group of airline partners. The codeshare agreement with ITA will offer our customers very convenient connections between the two airlines’ networks. ITA has an extensive route network and is known for excellent customer experience. We look forward to welcoming ITA passengers on board and extending our comprehensive network throughout Italy and beyond.”

Andrea Benassi, General Manager of ITA Airways, also commented on the collaboration: “We are pleased to sign this codeshare partnership with Icelandair today. This agreement further enhances ITA Airways’ commercial strategy of growth and opens a privileged access route to all passengers who will benefit from the connectivity via Rome Fiumicino and Reykjavík. This agreement marks the Company's 37th codeshare partnership, an excellent result we have achieved in just over three years.”

Both airlines emphasize their commitment to expanding market reach through strategic partnerships.
