New airline routes launched: Delta adds São Paulo-Boston; Emirates resumes A380 Copenhagen

Delta Air Lines has launched its third route to São Paulo Guarulhos from Boston, marking the first time a U.S. carrier serves this airport pair. The service commenced on January 6 and operates three times weekly using an A330-300 aircraft. This new daytime service is scheduled to run until March 27, temporarily replacing Delta's joint venture partner, LATAM, whose next Boston departure is set for March 31.

Aerolíneas Argentinas introduced a new route on January 3, connecting Rosario to Punta Cana with weekly flights using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. This marks the first direct service between these cities and ranks among the longest non-stop routes operated by a narrowbody aircraft at over eight hours in duration.

On January 6, AJet (formerly AnadoluJet) began operations between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and Algiers, becoming the third airline on this route alongside Turkish Airlines and Air Algerie. AJet will operate five weekly flights using a mix of Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Emirates resumed its Airbus A380 service to Copenhagen from Dubai on January 1, replacing the previous Boeing 777-300ER equipment. This change increases daily seat capacity by approximately 44%, enhancing connectivity especially with Asia-Pacific destinations.

Qatar Airways has restarted its Doha-Damascus route after it was last served in 2012. The service was reintroduced following changes in Syria's political landscape. Additionally, Qatar Airways has reestablished flights to Abha in Saudi Arabia, which had been suspended since August 2017 due to regional blockades.

Air India Express launched two new routes from Dammam: Bengaluru on January 1 and Tiruchchirappalli (Trichy) on January 2. These additions mark significant expansions into previously underserved Middle Eastern markets for these Indian cities.

Finally, GallopAir commenced its inaugural flight from Bandar Seri Begawan to Guangzhou on December 31 using chartered China Southern COMAC C909 aircraft. GallopAir plans to expand its fleet with up to thirty COMAC machines as it aims to establish a regional hub despite competition from Royal Brunei Airlines.
