Air Canada Aeroplan is offering a limited-time promotion, allowing select members to receive up to a 100% bonus when purchasing Aeroplan points until January 14. Typically, Aeroplan points are sold at approximately 2.58 cents each. However, some members have reported seeing an increased bonus of 100%, reducing the cost per point to about 1.22 cents, which is below the December 2024 valuation of 1.5 cents per point by The Points Guy (TPG).

Members can buy or gift up to 500,000 Aeroplan points per transaction with an annual purchase limit of one million points and a gifting limit of 500,000 points annually. To qualify for the full 100% bonus, members must purchase at least 80,000 points.

"TPG typically doesn't recommend buying points unless you want to top off your account or have a specific redemption in mind," noted TPG staffers. However, this sale offers an opportunity to acquire points below their usual valuation.

The promotion provides potential savings on high-cost business-class award tickets and Star Alliance flights. For instance, round-trip business-class awards from the U.S. to Europe could be as low as $1,464 before taxes and fees using Aeroplan points.

To benefit from this offer, members should log into their accounts to check if they qualify for the elevated bonus rate. While Canadian residents must pay sales tax on these purchases, U.S.-based members are exempt.

For those looking for additional ways to accumulate Aeroplan points, the Aeroplan Credit Card from Chase offers significant bonuses upon meeting certain spending thresholds within specified timeframes.

Purchases made under this promotion will be processed by Points.com rather than Air Canada directly. Therefore, using a credit card that offers rewards on non-bonus spending categories and avoids foreign transaction fees is recommended.

In summary, this promotion presents an opportunity for eligible members to purchase discounted Aeroplan points for future travel bookings but requires action before January 14.
