Porter Airlines, based in Toronto, has announced plans to expand its operations by adding flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The airline will commence this new service on May 1, with up to three daily round-trip flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and LGA. Previously, Porter exclusively served Newark as its only New York City metro area destination.

Flights from LaGuardia will operate out of Terminal B, providing passengers access to premium departure lounges such as the American Express Centurion Lounge and Chase's Sapphire Lounge by The Club. The schedule is designed for convenient connections through YYZ to Porter's domestic network in Canada, including cities like Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Vancouver.

The airline will use its new 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft for the route. This model features a 2-2 seating configuration and offers free Wi-Fi. Onboard services include an assortment of premium snacks and complimentary beer and wine served in glassware.

Porter has been serving the New York City area via Newark Liberty International Airport since 2008 using De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft. Adding flights at the capacity-constrained LaGuardia required securing slots for takeoff and landing permissions. This likely involved leasing arrangements with another airline, possibly JetBlue, which is Porter's interline partner.

Andrew Pierce, Porter's vice president of network planning and reporting, stated: "We have built a strong passenger base over more than 15 years for those traveling between Canada and the New York metropolitan area. The addition of LaGuardia introduces a new dimension to our network, opening more options for existing customers and the ability to attract new ones within the busiest air service corridor connecting Canada and the U.S."
