Oliver Buchhofer Chief Operating Officer | Swiss International Air Lines

SWISS is set to begin training its pilots for the new Airbus A350 aircraft starting in February. The training will be conducted using a recently installed full-flight simulator at Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland's Opfikon facility. Over 50 pilots are expected to undergo training this year, with more than 90 pilots annually from 2026 onwards.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is updating its fleet with ten new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, replacing the current Airbus A340-300 models. The first of these new aircraft is being assembled in Toulouse and is scheduled for delivery this summer. The simulator at LAT CH closely mimics the actual flight characteristics of the A350.

Chief Operating Officer Oliver Buchhofer remarked on the significance of this development: “The Airbus A350 marks another major milestone for us at SWISS,” he said. “It underlines our commitment to investing in a state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft fleet; and it will raise both our efficiency and our passenger comfort to further new highs.”

In addition to cockpit crew training, SWISS cabin crew members will also receive training for service on the Airbus A350 beginning in March. Around 1,800 cabin crew members are expected to complete their training by year's end.

Buchhofer expressed gratitude for having all pilot and cabin crew training centralized at LAT's Opfikon center: “We’re very grateful that, with the addition of the Airbus A350, we can continue to have the training for all our cockpit and all our cabin crew members on all our aircraft types conducted at LAT’s Opfikon training center,” he stated.
