Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) remains Michigan's busiest airport, serving nearly 33 million passengers in 2024. The airport offers a variety of domestic and international flights, with some of the longest routes spanning thousands of miles. According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the longest direct flight from DTW exceeds 16 hours.

The list of long-haul routes begins with Delta Air Lines' service to London Heathrow (LHR), covering a distance of 3,766 miles. This route utilizes an Airbus A330-200 aircraft configured with four cabin classes. In January, Delta provided 6,913 one-way seats on this route.

Another European destination is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), served by Delta's Airbus A330-300 fleet over a distance of 3,940 miles. The airline offered 26,226 one-way seats for this route in January.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is connected to Detroit through both Delta Air Lines and Air France. Delta operates its A330-300 while Air France uses its A350-900 for this nearly eight-hour journey. In January, these airlines collectively offered thousands of seats across multiple flights.

Delta and Lufthansa connect Detroit to Frankfurt (FRA) over a distance of 4,161 miles using their respective fleets. Together they provide numerous flights each month with significant seating capacity.

The only domestic route on the list connects Detroit to Honolulu (HNL), Hawaii, covering a distance of 4,475 miles. Operated by Delta Air Lines' A330-300 aircraft up to five times weekly in January.

Further east is Istanbul (IST), served by Turkish Airlines using Boeing 787-9 aircraft daily. "The spacious Business Class cabin features a 1-2-1 seating protocol," says Turkish Airlines about their onboard offerings.

Royal Jordanian connects Detroit to Amman (AMM) three times weekly using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners over a distance of 6,055 miles.

Delta also flies daily from Detroit to Tokyo Haneda (HND) using its Airbus A350-900 fleet for this extensive route measuring 6,428 miles.

Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) in South Korea is another long-distance destination served daily by Delta’s A350-900s over a span of more than six thousand miles.

Topping the list is Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), China—a massive journey stretching over seven thousand miles operated by Delta’s Airbus A350-900 once daily.

These routes highlight Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport's role as a major hub for international travel from Michigan.
