Avelo Airlines is set to expand its presence on the East Coast with new bases in North Carolina and international service launching this weekend. However, the airline will also be cutting four routes from its schedule by the end of March due to insufficient passenger interest.

The Houston-based ultra-low-cost carrier will discontinue two routes from Wilmington Airport in Delaware after February 27. The affected routes include flights to Concord-Padgett Regional Airport outside Charlotte and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. An Avelo spokesperson stated that both routes experienced low demand.

Additionally, Avelo will end two nonstop flights from Hartford's Bradley International Airport on March 30, as part of a restructuring strategy for its Connecticut operations. Moving forward, Avelo plans to focus on using Tweed New Haven Airport for domestic services and Bradley International for a smaller international footprint.

Despite these cuts, Avelo is introducing new international routes. Nonstop service from Hartford to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic began Friday, and flights from Raleigh, North Carolina, are set to launch Saturday.

Furthermore, Avelo will establish crew bases in Concord starting March 6 and Wilmington on April 3. Although service from Wilmington to Atlanta will cease, Avelo will maintain a route connecting Atlanta with its New Haven base.
