Delta Air Lines has announced its first-ever international route from Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) airport, expanding operations with a new connection to Cancun, Mexico. The service is aimed at attracting holidaymakers seeking sun in Mexico and will operate from December 20 through mid-April 2026 using Airbus A320 aircraft.

The new route

According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, Delta’s new service will provide just under 10,000 two-way seats. The airline will face competition on this route from American Airlines, which offers year-round service with Boeing 737-800s, and Southwest Airlines.

Additional Austin expansion

In addition to the Cancun flight, Delta plans to increase its Austin-Orlando (MCO) route to twice daily during peak winter travel season. It also recently launched flights to New Orleans on February 27 and inaugurated Panama City, Florida (ECP) flights in March. Further expansions include adding flights to:

- Jacksonville (JAX), Indianapolis (IND), and Memphis (MEM) as of May

- San Francisco (SFO) and Tampa (TPA) as of June

Year-over-year growth

Delta says these new routes will result in a combined increase of more than percent in daily departures. In winter alone, daily departures are expected to reach . Paul Baldoni, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning said:

“Delta is the leading global network carrier at Austin-Bergstrom, operating nearly peak day departures this winter. ”
