It might surprise you that LOT Polish will become Toronto's leading European airline by flights this summer. This is because it will offer a record 15 weekly departures—up to three daily flights—overtaking other carriers with 'only' 14 weekly services (double daily).

Toronto's top 10 airlines to Europe

Most airlines make money in the year's third quarter (July-September). It is when demand and fares are at their highest. Toronto will have European flights from 19 carriers in this period. They include Virgin Atlantic, whose first service to Toronto will begin on March 30. When it last served Canada in 2014, it flew to Vancouver.

Toronto's top 10 airlines to/from Europe are shown below by the number of takeoffs in Q3 based on OAG data. While LOT Polish is the new largest European operator, it only has 4% of Toronto's services across the North Atlantic. As discussed later, its frequency in those three months has only risen slightly, but it's enough to change the order.
