Bombardier Global 7500 a | Wikipedia

Bombardier Aerospace's Global 7500 is renowned as one of the fastest business jets globally. According to Bombardier, throughout its development, certification, and production, the Global 7500 has set 100 different speed records worldwide. This article examines some of these records and the design characteristics that have contributed to this achievement.

The Global 7500 is Bombardier's most recently certified product and currently their fastest plane in production. It measures 111 feet in length with a wingspan of 104 feet and a height of 27 feet. Initially intended to have a range of 7,500 nautical miles, it actually boasts a maximum range of 7,700 nautical miles.

Design began in the early 2010s with an FAA type certificate application filed in 2012. The aircraft, initially marketed as the Global 7000 under model name BD-700-2A12, was designed from scratch by Bombardier. Key technological improvements include its Smooth Flĕx Wing—a specially designed transonic wing optimized for Mach speeds approaching the speed of sound.

The Smooth Flĕx Wing incorporates leading-edge slats and trailing-edge flaps to enhance takeoff and landing performance. Its higher angle sweep allows for superior cruising performance at higher speeds, with the Global 7500 reaching top speeds of Mach .925 (617 knots).

Powering this jet are General Electric Passport turbofan engines rated at ,920 lbf each. These engines enable the aircraft to reach altitudes up to ,000 feet. Higher altitudes reduce air resistance due to fewer air molecules, allowing for increased flight efficiency and contributing significantly to its speed records.

Among its numerous achievements is a recent flight from San Luis Obispo, California to London, England—covering ,729 nautical miles in just nine hours and seventeen minutes at an average speed of Mach .81 (540 knots). Other notable flights include Tokyo-to-San Francisco; Oakland-to-Tokyo; Hartford-to-Dubai; Tokyo-to-Toronto; London-to-Riyadh; Sydney-to-Detroit—the longest business aviation flight recorded at ,225 nautical miles—and Los Angeles-to-New York, completed in three hours and fifty-four minutes.

Bombardier's team has rapidly amassed these records—fifty were achieved within weeks—and shows no signs of slowing down despite having reached their th record milestone.

Looking ahead, Bombardier is testing their new Global , which shares much with its predecessor but includes minor tweaks such as additional engine software allowing throttling up to Mach .94 (627 knots), making it poised to be the world's fastest business jet.

Customers owning Global s will have access to upgrade packages matching Glo- bal specifications regarding range extension and increased maximum speeds. Whether these upgrades will require supplemental type certificates or amend ex- isting ones remains uncertain.

In conclusion, while we await further developments on potential upgrades or new models surpassing current capabilities altogether—the remarkable achievements, set by Bombardier’s team using both past iterations like Global along- side future prospects embodied within forthcoming releases such as Globals— assure continued success breaking even more aerial boundaries across global sk- ies alike!
