Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is adjusting its long-haul route network by reducing the number of flights from Zurich to Chicago during the summer months. This change, reported by aviation analytics company Cirium, will see a decrease in services between Zurich Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport from March 30 to June 30, 2025.

In April 2025, SWISS plans to operate 43 flights instead of the initially scheduled 60. In May, there will be 44 flights instead of 62, and in June, again only 43 flights instead of the planned 60. The airline typically uses either Airbus A330-300s or Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for this route. The Boeing models offer more capacity with a four-class cabin layout accommodating up to 320 passengers.

The reduction in service will affect approximately 12,272 seats from April through June. However, starting July 2025, the schedule is expected to return to normal with an increase back to 62 monthly flights. SWISS and United Airlines remain the only carriers offering nonstop direct services between Zurich and Chicago.

In addition to these changes on the Chicago route, AeroRoutes reports that SWISS will also cut back on other routes during this period. Flights from Zurich to Shanghai Pudong International Airport will see reductions between April and June. SWISS operates its Airbus A340 quadjets on this route as it is currently the sole airline providing direct nonstop service between these two cities.

Further adjustments include reduced frequencies on flights between Zurich and Boston Logan International Airport in late May through early June and a decrease in services from Zurich to Dubai International Airport from seven weekly flights down to six during late May into mid-June.
