Air Canada currently operates a fleet of 39 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, consisting of eight 787-8s and 31 787-9s, with further expansion plans including 18 Boeing 787-10s on order. The airline anticipates one additional 787-9 delivery later in the year. The introduction of the Dreamliner has allowed Air Canada to develop routes previously deemed uneconomical, expanding its global reach significantly.

One of the most notable developments is the expansion of Air Canada's network from Vancouver. "The Asian routes have been particularly significant," according to the data compiled from Cirium, an aviation data analytics company. Vancouver serves as a hub for Air Canada's Pacific routes, including the remarkably extended journey to Singapore Changi Airport, measuring nearly 8,000 miles. Initiated in 2024, it is the only nonstop link between Canada and Singapore, with flights extending up to 16 hours and 40 minutes.

Moreover, Air Canada operates a winter seasonal route from Vancouver to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Although the US lacks nonstop flights to Thailand, this route enables connectivity through Vancouver, leveraging Air Canada's extensive network.

In addition, flights between Vancouver and Seoul Incheon International Airport demonstrate Air Canada’s long-standing commitment to connecting Canada with South Korea, with the 787 operating the majority of these flights.

The Hong Kong market is another critical destination, where Air Canada flies daily using the Boeing 787, maintaining essential connections amid changes in the region.

Mainland China is also served, with Air Canada running 20 of its 787-9s to Beijing Capital Airport and a mix of 787-8s and 787-9s to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, scheduling 27 total flights.

Japan remains a major market for Air Canada, with flights from Vancouver using the Dreamliner to Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai International Airport. Meanwhile, Dubai is a destination exclusively connected by a four-times-a-week service from Vancouver, further entrenching Air Canada’s reach in Western Asia.

In a new undertaking, Air Canada will begin flying from Vancouver to Manila in April 2025, entering a competitive market currently served by Philippine Airlines. Furthermore, from Vancouver, the airline reaches destinations in Oceania, such as Brisbane and Auckland, with the latter operating primarily in winter.

Domestically within Canada, Air Canada’s Boeing 787 fleet connects Vancouver to other major cities including Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Calgary, the last of which is a short-haul flight.

In summary, Air Canada is strategically utilizing its Boeing 787 fleet to expand its network and connect Canadians to more destinations worldwide.
