Etihad Airways has announced the launch of new nonstop flights to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, commencing on October 1, 2025. The announcement was made on the social media platform X on March 20.

According to Simple Flying, Etihad's introduction of direct flights to Addis Ababa highlights the airline's renewed focus on underserved African markets. This route re-entry follows several years of absence from Ethiopia, a significant diplomatic and economic center in East Africa. Addis Ababa hosts both the African Union headquarters and numerous international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), making it a strategic location for business and international relations.

As reported by Business Traveller, Etihad will operate this new route with four weekly flights using an Airbus A320 aircraft that offers both Economy and Business Class cabins. The flight schedule is designed to facilitate smooth connectivity through Abu Dhabi to major destinations in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Etihad anticipates that the new service will boost both inbound and outbound tourism while enhancing its route network to Africa.

According to Reuters, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport ranks among the busiest hubs in Africa, handling over 12 million passengers annually as of 2023. The airport serves as a key transit point for travelers connecting across the continent, largely supported by Ethiopian Airlines' extensive network. Etihad’s entry into this market introduces competitive value and increased travel flexibility for passengers traveling between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and East Africa.

As detailed by BBC News, Etihad Airways is the national airline of the UAE, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and was established in 2003. The airline operates a fleet of more than 70 aircraft and serves over 60 destinations worldwide. Known for its emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and premium service, Etihad plays a crucial role in linking the UAE with global destinations.
