Daher Kodiak | Wikipedia

The Daher Kodiak series, recognized for its versatile utility, continues to evolve within the aviation industry. Known for its reliability, performance, and adaptability, the Kodiak is particularly useful in remote areas. Originally designed by Quest Aircraft Company and launched as the Kodiak 100, it now operates under the French aerospace conglomerate, Daher. The aircraft's STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities make it ideal for accessing isolated airstrips.

Quest Aircraft Company was founded in 2001 with the goal of developing aircraft to support humanitarian missions. Initially headquartered in Sandpoint, Idaho, the company designed the Kodiak, which quickly became its flagship model. In 2015, Setouchi Holdings, a Japanese firm, acquired Quest before selling it to Daher in 2019. Daher has since enhanced the Kodiak with new features and configurations.

The Kodiak 100's engine, a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-34 turboprop, generates up to 750 horsepower, allowing the aircraft to reach a maximum cruise speed of 174 knots. Its modular interior can accommodate up to ten passengers or a significant amount of cargo, with six variations available for different needs. The aircraft features a Garmin G1000 NXi cockpit and offers options like a weather radar pod and a TKS ice protection system.

The Kodiak is built to perform under challenging conditions, including cold weather and icy environments. Its ability to operate with short takeoff and landing distances enables it to access remote runways and perform a variety of missions. Capable of carrying cargo, supporting humanitarian missions, providing air taxi services, and even being equipped with water floats, the Kodiak is increasingly used in fields such as mining, forestry, and agriculture.

More recently, the larger Kodiak 900 was introduced, offering increased cabin space and an upgraded engine. Certified by the FAA in August 2022 as the Kodiak 200, it provides improved performance over the Kodiak 100, with a higher maximum takeoff weight and increased cruise speed.

The Daher Kodiak, whether in its 100 or 900 iteration, continues to be a valuable asset in the utility aircraft market.
