The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui has found itself in the spotlight as the star location for the third season of the HBO series "The White Lotus." Mike White, the series' creator, quickly chose the 43-acre resort for its picturesque views and the Gulf of Thailand backdrop. "Arriving to the resort, you're standing on top of a peak and you can see 43 acres of lush land [and] the Gulf of Thailand, and it's just beautiful overall," noted the resort's general manager, Jasjit Assi.

Assi, who has worked with Four Seasons for 18 years, describes the TV series' portrayal of general managers as fictionalized. He views the show as a satire meant for entertainment. "Look," Assi said, "'White Lotus' is meant to entertain. There is a bit of exaggeration. It's a satire; it's a fictional drama series." However, he insists, "the beauty of the resort and the exceptional Thai hospitality you see throughout the season" are authentic aspects.

When the resort was selected by White, he stayed as a guest and collaborated with Assi and his crew to scout filming locations. The resort closed to the public for the 2024 filming but remained fully operational for the cast. Assi remarked, "In reality, it was like running a proper resort every day," even during the shoot, where the crew adhered to a wild filming schedule.

The cast embraced local life on their days off, enjoying the area's beaches, restaurants, and spas. Parker Posey, an actor in the show, was among those who returned to the resort for a personal visit after filming. Assi noted, "We treated them like normal guests. They would go down to the beach. They were ordering cocktails. They were going into the spa, embracing real life."

The resort staff had to adapt to the demands of catering to such a high-profile production while maintaining professionalism. They also signed numerous confidentiality agreements. According to Assi, "[They] learned how to be coy" about the filming specifics when asked by inquisitive visitors.

Since the show's airing, Assi commented, "Guests want to [have] their own 'White Lotus' experiences." Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui anticipated the increased interest following the resort's appearance on the popular show.

Assi emphasized, "The Four Seasons philosophy has always been 'inspiration through travel,'" and the partnership with "The White Lotus" has further showcased their commitment to offering exceptional travel experiences. As for the future, Assi humorously deflected questions about upcoming seasons, saying, "Let me survive this one."

Rates at the resort begin at $1,800 per night, with some options, such as the villa featured in the series, costing more.
