Long Beach Airport has completed its Terminal Roadway Improvements Project, a development aimed at enhancing both vehicular and pedestrian flow, particularly for individuals with mobility challenges. The project, which began in January 2024, involved making the area in front of the main drop-off and pick-up site more accessible with features compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These updates include additional curb space, crosswalks, ramps, signage, handrails, and improved lighting, alongside necessary upgrades to utilities like sewer lines.

Mayor Rex Richardson commented on the upgrade: “Our award-winning Long Beach Airport is making it even easier for travelers to get on their way with these roadway upgrades. For more than a century, LGB has been committed to smooth travels, and the completion of this critical road work ensures an even more seamless and convenient experience.”

Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr also praised the project, stating, “The Airport’s continued investment in modern infrastructure is delivering real benefits. With these terminal roadway upgrades, we are excited to see travelers experience better traffic flow and improved pedestrian access.”

This $16.6 million undertaking was primarily financed by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), contributing $10.6 million, with the remaining balance covered by revenue from the Airport.

Cynthia Guidry, Airport Director, added, "At Long Beach Airport, we like to say ‘the going is easy’—and now, it’s even easier. With these roadway improvements complete, travelers can enjoy even more convenience from curb to gate."

Long Beach Airport, often referred to as "america’s coolest airport," is strategically situated between Los Angeles and Orange counties. It currently accommodates travelers with services from airlines such as Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Hawaiian Airlines, offering flights to 22 nonstop destinations and further connectivity to nearly 400 cities globally.
