American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER | Official Website

American Airlines continues to be among the few carriers offering first-class cabins, branded as Flagship First. Despite the focus of many airlines on enhancing business class and premium economy, American Airlines maintains first class on select Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A321 aircraft within its extensive fleet of over 980 airplanes. These Flagship First cabins are configured to serve specific long-haul and transcontinental routes that demand premium service.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft features a comprehensive four-class cabin configuration, with first class offering lie-flat beds, dining options, WiFi, and other amenities. American Airlines operates 20 of these aircraft, deploying them on key international routes from hubs such as New York JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Charlotte.

"Among the amenities and services that passengers can expect to find in American Airlines' Flagship First cabin onboard the Boeing 777-300ER are lie-flat beds, chef-inspired dining, free WiFi and power supply, exclusive branded amenity kit, and luxurious bedding," the airline notes.

The Airbus A321 fleet includes 15 aircraft with a unique transcontinental configuration, operating between major designations like New York and Los Angeles or San Francisco. First-class seats on these flights are limited but cater to a market demanding premium travel experiences.

American Airlines continues to face competition on routes such as JFK to LAX, where it matches services against other major airlines like Delta and JetBlue. "Although only a small percentage of American Airlines' aircraft feature a first-class cabin, the fact that the carrier even offers a first-class service these days is significant," the carrier stated.

The airline selectively uses its Flagship First cabin for premium routes connecting major cities, suggesting an ongoing commitment to serve markets demanding high-end travel. American Airlines' choice to retain first class when many airlines opt out sets it apart on crowded and competitive routes like JFK to London Heathrow and LAX to Sydney.

"American Airlines wisely chooses to deploy its Flagship First cabin on its more premium routes, often those that connect major economic powerhouses such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, São Paulo, and Sydney," the airline explains.

For now, American Airlines holds its place as a carrier offering some of the most luxurious travel experiences between the US and international destinations.
