Viva Aerobus is enhancing its presence in the United States with new routes, including the launch of service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Felipe Ángeles International Airport, starting November 1. This announcement was shared in a post on X.

According to the Associated Press, the Mexican government has mandated a 17% reduction in flights at Mexico City's Benito Juárez International Airport, reducing flights per hour from 52 to 43. This decision aims to alleviate congestion and shift air traffic to the newer Felipe Ángeles International Airport, which currently has underutilized capacity. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador supports this move to promote Felipe Ángeles as an alternative aviation hub.

Simple Flying reports that Viva Aerobus has been expanding its operations from Felipe Ángeles International Airport by launching new routes, including international destinations like Havana. The airline's CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua, emphasized the airport's potential due to its capacity and infrastructure. The addition of the LAX–Felipe Ángeles route aligns with Viva Aerobus's strategy to enhance connectivity from this newer hub.

The Mexico City Post states that Viva Aerobus announced a significant U.S. expansion by introducing six new routes from Monterrey to cities such as Austin, Denver, Miami, New York JFK, Oakland, and Orlando. This expansion follows the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's upgrade of Mexico's aviation safety rating to Category 1, allowing Mexican airlines to add new cross-border routes. The LAX–Felipe Ángeles service is part of Viva Aerobus's broader efforts to strengthen its international presence.

According to L.A. Business First, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) handled over 75 million passengers in 2023, ranking as the world’s eighth-busiest airport. Despite a nearly 14% increase in passenger traffic from the previous year, LAX dropped from its 2022 position as the sixth-busiest airport globally. The airport remains a critical hub for international travel with substantial infrastructure supporting its operations.
