Carsten Spohr Chief Executive Officer | Lufthansa Group

From October 2025, Lufthansa Group, in partnership with Visa, is set to introduce a new online payment option called 'Click to Pay' on the booking portals of its airlines—Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines. This option aims to simplify the online booking process for customers.

'Click to Pay' allows users to complete their online bookings by entering only their e-mail address, avoiding the need to input debit and credit card details. Consumers can register their card once on payment network websites like Visa or through card-issuing banks, and subsequently, they can use 'Click to Pay'. The customers' e-mail addresses will be used to recognize them on Lufthansa Group Airlines' booking platforms.

According to Lufthansa Group, this service will be available to all cardholders, irrespective of their card provider. As a result, the Lufthansa Group becomes one of the pioneer airline groups in Europe to adopt "Click to Pay".

"We are constantly improving services for our customers and want to offer them an innovative all-round service at every stage of their journey," stated Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. He further explained that their partnership with Visa is crucial for enhancing customer service. Vranckx commented on the benefits that this additional offer brings to the travel experience with Lufthansa Group's airlines.

Albrecht Kiel, Head of Central Europe at Visa, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "We are delighted to be able to support the Lufthansa Group with the introduction of 'Click to Pay'. For customers of Europe's leading airline group, completing a purchase will be as easy as contactless payment."

With regards to security, 'Click to Pay' employs digital placeholders, known as tokens, instead of processing card numbers directly. The use of these tokens significantly minimizes fraud risks, boasting a reduction of up to 80 percent in fraudulent activities compared to manual card entry without tokens.
