United Airlines adds second daytime flight on Newark-London route

United Airlines is planning to adjust its flight schedule on the Newark-London Heathrow route by adding a second daytime flight this coming winter. As reported by AeroRoutes, passengers can expect the new schedule to commence on October 25, 2025.

Currently, United Airlines has seven daily flights between Newark International Airport (EWR) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), with six flights scheduled at night and only one during the day. According to the updated plan, the airline will offer a second daytime flight. This shift will result in five evening flights instead of the current six.

"United Airlines will replace its existing Flight UA110, which departs Newark (EWR) at 17:55 local New York time, with Flight UA123, which will depart Newark at 09:10 local time and reach Heathrow Airport at 21:20 local London time."

The existing daytime flight, Flight UA934, will continue to operate on the same schedule, leaving Newark at 08:25 and arriving in London at 20:35. The total number of flights on the route will remain unchanged despite these adjustments to the timing.

United Airlines is set to use its fleet of Boeing 767-300ER aircraft for this service. The airline's 767-300ERs, which are deployed on the EWR to LHR route, offer 167 passenger seats in a three-class cabin layout. These include 46 business class seats, 22 in premium economy, and 99 in economy class.

"Overnight flights have long been accepted as a part of life for airline passengers wanting to travel east across the Atlantic Ocean."

Daytime flights, while less common, offer an alternative option for travelers concerning jet lag. "For many passengers traveling east to Europe, daytime flights might be the solution to preventing jet lag." Awake passengers during the flight, who sleep at their destination that night, can help regulate their circadian rhythms more effectively.

Airlines currently offering daytime eastbound transatlantic flights, depending on the season, include "British Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, and United Airlines, among other carriers."

Despite some passengers viewing daytime travel as time-consuming, "research shows that overnight flights negatively affect most people’s sleep quality, even with lie-flat seating."

The shift in United Airlines' schedule reflects the ongoing discussion about the benefits of daytime vs. overnight travel across the Atlantic.
