American Airlines has introduced its new business-class Flagship Suites on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, offering an enticing option for travelers. The suites are available for booking with award space starting at 55,000 miles one-way.

The airline will launch service from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to London's Heathrow Airport on June 5 and expand service from Philadelphia International Airport to Heathrow on August 6. Additionally, flights between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Brisbane, Australia, will feature the new jet in late October.

Demand is high for these planes and their suites, which include sliding privacy doors. Coach seats on the inaugural international flight from O'Hare to Heathrow are already sold out. Booking a suite directly through American can cost over $6,000 or nearly 300,000 AAdvantage miles one-way. TPG values American miles at 1.65 cents each, providing a redemption value of 2 cents per mile.

While summer economy award space is available through AAdvantage at 27,000 miles one-way, business-class redemptions are more expensive during June and July. Premium economy tickets offer good value at 47,000 miles but might not be as appealing when compared to the luxurious business-class option for slightly more miles.

There is an alternative route for booking: Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan program offers Flagship Suite award redemptions starting at just 55,000 miles one-way plus taxes and fees. Alaska miles are valued at 1.5 cents apiece by TPG's May 2025 valuations.

Gary Leff from View from the Wing was first to report that this redemption provides a value of 11 cents per mile. While not every day this summer has available award space, finding it is not too difficult.

To book using Alaska miles, ensure you select a flight route operating with the new plane configuration designated as "787-9P." This ensures access to the Flagship Suites.

For those without Alaska miles, options include transferring American Express Membership Rewards points or Bilt Points to partners that allow conversion into Alaska Miles. If award space isn't found through American or Alaska directly, checking with other Oneworld alliance partners like British Airways or Qantas could be beneficial.

Third-party tools such as Seats.aero can assist in searching for award space but verify aircraft types match the "787-9P" configuration needed for accessing these suites.

American's new Dreamliners feature significantly more business-class suites than existing models —51 compared to the previous count of 30—offering enhanced availability and comfort for travelers seeking premium travel experiences.
