Chicago O'Hare International Airport | Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Chicago O'Hare International Airport continues to lead as the world's busiest airport by flight movements, with 2,442 daily passenger aircraft operations in June. This status is attributed to its role as a hub for American Airlines and United Airlines, which together account for approximately 85% of services.

According to Cirium Diio data, O'Hare's daily movements have increased by 13.3% compared to last year, rising from 2,154 to 2,442. This growth contrasts with the overall increase of just 3.9% at all U.S. airports during the same period. As a result, O'Hare's share of national air traffic has grown from 7.6% to 8.3%.

Despite this increase in flights, O'Hare has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels; in June 2019, it recorded 2,616 takeoffs and landings. A decline in regional jet flights partly explains this discrepancy, although seats per flight have risen from an average of 114 to 125.

United Airlines remains the leading carrier at O'Hare with 1,129 daily movements. The airport serves as United's primary hub for flight operations but ranks differently when considering seats and passengers or available seat miles across other hubs like Denver and San Francisco.

American Airlines follows with 939 daily movements at O'Hare—its third-busiest hub by this measure after Dallas/Fort Worth and Charlotte. However, due to extensive use of regional jets at O'Hare (112 seats per flight on average), it ranks fourth for passengers and available seat miles among American's major hubs.

Air Canada is the only international airline among the top ten operators at O'Hare with an average of nine daily departures over three routes: Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Overall flights remain below June 2019 figures; however, seat availability has reached unprecedented levels for June due to changes in aircraft usage patterns.
