ITA Airways has announced an extension of its suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv until May 25, 2025.

According to Travel and Tour World, the decision comes amid escalating regional tensions and heightened security concerns following a missile launch by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, which reportedly landed near Ben Gurion Airport. This development has raised serious aviation safety risks. ITA Airways' decision aligns with similar actions taken by other major European airlines such as Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines, who have also suspended operations due to the deteriorating security environment.

As reported by Israel Hayom, ITA Airways specifically cancelled its flights AZ809 and AZ815 scheduled for May 19, 2025, as part of this extended suspension. The airline has advised passengers traveling to and from Tel Aviv to monitor updates closely through the Flight Info section on its official website before heading to the airport. This communication underscores the unpredictable nature of the situation and ITA's commitment to ensuring safety while providing timely updates.

According to Reuters, the broader context behind the suspension includes a missile strike near Tel Aviv on May 4, 2025, attributed to Houthi forces in Yemen. This attack caused significant disruptions at Ben Gurion Airport and led global carriers to reassess safety measures. The volatile security environment has prompted numerous airlines to reroute or suspend flights to mitigate risks for passengers, crew, and aircraft.

As detailed by Reuters, ITA Airways was established in 2020 as the successor to Alitalia, Italy’s former national carrier. It operates an extensive domestic and international flight network with a strategic focus on connecting Italy to key destinations in Europe, North America, and Asia. As a member of the SkyTeam alliance, ITA Airways plays a critical role in maintaining Italy’s connectivity within the global aviation industry.
