Taiwanese airline STARLUX is considering launching a nonstop flight service connecting Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with Taipei’s Taoyuan Airport. This potential route would mark the first nonstop flight from Phoenix to Asia. The announcement was made by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, who indicated that the service could start early next year with up to three to four flights weekly, subject to government approvals.

STARLUX plans to use its Airbus A350-900 aircraft for this route, which can accommodate 306 passengers. Tickets will be available once the necessary approvals are obtained. This development follows Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's announcement of a $165 billion investment in its Phoenix facilities, potentially increasing passenger demand between the two cities.

Phoenix Aviation Director Chad Makovsky emphasized the significance of this new connection for Phoenix and its airport's ongoing growth and modernization efforts. Mayor Gallego highlighted the economic benefits, stating, “Phoenix’s first non-stop flight to Asia reflects the incredible strides we’ve made with our local economy, and our emergence as an international city.”

Currently, STARLUX operates flights from Taipei to several West Coast destinations in the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The airline will soon add a new route from Taipei to Ontario, California.

Looking beyond the West Coast, STARLUX is exploring further expansion into other US markets such as Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Houston.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has seen significant growth in recent years. In 2024, it recorded over 52 million passengers passing through its terminals for the first time in history. The airport also welcomed new airlines like Air France and Porter during that year.
