Jens Bischof CEO of Eurowings | Eurowings Website

Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, has announced a new initiative to enhance its business class offering on medium-haul flights. The German low-cost carrier plans to introduce Premium BIZ seating, which is similar to North American short-haul first-class recliners. This development aims to improve passenger comfort on longer routes.

The Premium BIZ seats will be available starting November 2025 on flights from Berlin to Dubai. Eurowings will operate daily flights from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) to Dubai International (DXB) and 15 round trips between Berlin and Dubai World Central (DWC). These flights last over six hours, making enhanced seating a significant improvement for passengers.

Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings, stated: "With our new Premium BIZ seat, we offer business travellers and holidaymakers a completely new level of comfort on medium-haul flights. More privacy and a significantly enhanced feel-good atmosphere make longer flights noticeably more pleasant. We are thus setting a new standard in our market segment and clearly positioning Eurowings as Europe's leading value airline."

The Airbus A320neo will feature these new seats with eight Geven recliners arranged in two rows of four-abreast seating. According to aviation journalist Andreas Spaeth, these seats offer 39 inches of pitch and weigh 30 kg each.

Eurowings' premium offerings for the Berlin-Dubai route include three options: Premium BIZ with four-abreast recliner seats, BIZ Class with six-abreast rows and extra legroom plus blocked middle seat, and SMART with six-abreast rows featuring extra legroom.

The rollout of the Premium BIZ seating marks a departure from traditional European short-haul configurations that typically block middle seats in the first few rows for business class. The new approach promises adjustable backrests, ergonomic design, generous upholstery, and increased comfort and privacy.

These enhancements come ahead of Eurowings' fleet renewal plan set for 2027 when it will begin incorporating Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes alongside its current all-Airbus fleet. Presently, Eurowings operates seven Airbus A320neos averaging 2.6 years old.
