The Landeskommando Hessen of the Bundeswehr and the Lufthansa Group have established a partnership to support reserve duty. This collaboration aims to encourage Lufthansa employees to volunteer for the Heimatschutz by providing them with time off for training, further education, and potential deployments. The partnership emphasizes the significant role volunteers play in the Heimatschutz and allows Lufthansa employees to contribute actively to societal security and protection.

On June 4, Michael Niggemann, Executive Board member of Deutsche Lufthansa AG responsible for Human Resources & Legal Affairs, received the partnership certificate from Brigadier General Holger Radmann. Niggemann stated: "We are looking forward to actively contributing to Germany’s security architecture as a new partner for Heimatschutz. In view of the current security policy situation and the often cited ‘Zeitenwende’, it is particularly important to us to sensitize our employees to the importance of the Heimatschutz."

Lufthansa Group plans to inform its employees about this opportunity and collaborate closely with Landeskommando Hessen for optimal preparation and integration into reserve service. The offer is available to all Lufthansa Group employees holding a German passport, with leave granted on a case-by-case basis. With many Lufthansa employees based in the Rhine-Main region, support will focus on Heimatschutzregiment 5 in Hesse. This partnership aligns Lufthansa with approximately 250 employers in Hesse already supporting Heimatschutz efforts. Currently, 2,400 volunteers from Hesse have joined Heimatschutzregiment 5, tasked with protecting critical infrastructure, securing transport routes, and providing regional disaster assistance.
