Long Beach Airport has announced a new daily nonstop service to Baltimore Washington International (BWI) through Southwest Airlines. This marks an expansion of Southwest's overnight flight offerings nationwide and is the first red-eye service offered at Long Beach Airport (LGB). The new route enhances LGB’s connectivity to the Eastern United States.

“This new route to the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area is a significant milestone for our City’s Airport. It is the first red-eye service from Southwest and an enhancement of our connectivity to the East Coast,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “With Long Beach City tourism still trending upward, we see this new route as a sign for a busy summer season.”

Starting June 5, passengers can fly Southwest nonstop to Baltimore on flights departing at 8:45 p.m., arriving at BWI at 5 a.m. local time. The return flight departs BWI at 1:20 p.m., arriving at LGB at 3:45 p.m. This schedule will be available until August 5, after which departure and arrival times will be adjusted for fall and winter seasons. The LGB-BWI flight will become seasonal in 2026.

To celebrate these inaugural flights, travelers experienced local culture from both destinations. Arriving passengers were treated to performances by Long Beach Airport’s LGB Live! music series, along with coupons and memorabilia related to Long Beach attractions. Passengers heading to BWI received gift bags with sleep masks, Baltimore-made candies, commemorative souvenirs, and could sample an Orange Crush, Maryland's official state cocktail.

“We pride ourselves in offering the easiest and most convenient travel experience in the country,” said Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. “That’s why our passengers enjoyed a taste of both Long Beach and Baltimore at the inaugural flight celebration hosted at america’s coolest airport.”

LGB offers a unique travel experience with services from Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Southwest Airlines. It provides nonstop flights to 22 airports across the nation including Hawaii, with one-stop service available to nearly 400 cities worldwide.
