Delta Air Lines is introducing new travel options for premium passengers heading to Europe's less accessible summer destinations. This initiative allows Delta One travelers to book final-leg charter flights through Wheels Up, the airline's private jet subsidiary. Passengers traveling to cities like Athens, Nice, or Rome can now arrange onward private jet travel to destinations such as Mykonos or St. Tropez. Wheels Up will manage these operations using its extensive fleet of over 7,000 aircraft and helicopters.

Customers opting for these transfers have the option to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to minimize their carbon footprint. The integration of Delta SkyMiles with Wheels Up's loyalty programs offers additional benefits for frequent flyers, creating a seamless luxury travel experience.

This partnership was first reported by Condé Nast Traveller and is seen as a strategic advantage for both companies. It enhances Delta's high-end services by providing direct connections to sought-after European summer spots without the need for ferries or regional flights.

George Mattson, CEO of Wheels Up and former member of Delta's Board of Directors, commented on the collaboration: “Delta has a huge global network. They fly to hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of airports. But if you connect it now to Wheels Up, it's every airport—it's infinite.” He highlighted how this move merges two previously separate aviation sectors from a supply perspective.

The integration of loyalty programs is another crucial element of this strategy. Customers spending over $100,000 annually with Wheels Up will receive Diamond Medallion Status with Delta Air Lines. Additionally, Delta SkyMiles members with Diamond or Platinum status can select a Wheels Up flight credit as part of their annual Choice Benefits.

Despite recent challenges faced by Wheels Up, this collaboration aims at appealing to high-spending travelers who frequently vacation in exclusive locations like St. Tropez. However, some passengers may prefer airlines offering first-class cabins—a service not currently available on Delta but offered by competitors like Air France and SWISS International Air Lines.
