The world's longest commercial air route is currently held by Singapore Airlines, with its daily Flight SQ23/SQ24 between Singapore Changi (SIN) and New York JFK (JFK). The great-circle distance of this route is 9,537 miles (15,349 km), but the actual flight covers about 15% more due to routing. Launched in late 2020, it surpassed the previous record held by the same airline's route between Singapore and Newark Liberty (EWR).

Singapore Airlines uses a fleet of Airbus A350-900ULR aircraft for this service. These planes are configured only with business or premium economy seats, accommodating up to 161 passengers. The outbound leg to New York takes approximately 18 hours and 40 minutes, while the return journey lasts around 19 hours due to flying westward.

"Singapore Airlines set a new record for the longest commercial air route with the launch of its Singapore-New York JFK service onboard its special fleet of Airbus A350-900ULR," noted an aviation expert. The flights offer all-premium seating arrangements which are especially favored by business travelers.

Despite plans from Qantas to launch a Sydney-London direct service that may surpass this distance in the future, SIN-JFK remains significant in ultra-long-haul aviation history. Qatar Airways operates another long-distance route from Doha to Auckland using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

In addition to these routes, Singapore Airlines announced an agreement with Airbus in 2015 for a special variant of A350-900 jets designed for ultra-long-haul connections. These jets have additional fuel capacity allowing them extended range without extra tanks.

Singapore Airlines boasts the largest fleet of A350 aircraft globally. It operates different cabin configurations across its fleet including standard long-haul and medium-haul variants alongside their all-premium ULRs.
