JetBlue Airways, a hybrid service carrier based in New York, is making significant changes to its route network as part of efforts to reduce costs and streamline operations. On June 20, 2025, the airline announced its decision to withdraw from Miami International Airport (MIA) and scale back year-round services at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

JetBlue's exit from Miami comes after a short-lived expansion that began in 2021. Initially launched to tap into post-pandemic leisure travel demand in South Florida, the airline has decided to discontinue operations from Miami by September. Previously, JetBlue operated flights to Miami from several hubs including Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Bradley International Airport (BDL), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Currently, it only operates flights from Boston.

The competitive landscape at Miami, where American Airlines maintains a strong presence, has been challenging for JetBlue. The airline lacks premium offerings that attract high-spending travelers on short-haul routes like those to Miami.

Similarly, JetBlue is reducing its presence at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport by transitioning to seasonal-only services as part of broader cost-cutting measures. This shift reflects JetBlue's strategy to focus on peak travel periods when demand is highest. The airline faces stiff competition from Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines on routes between New York and Seattle.

In response to inquiries about the changes in Seattle, JetBlue confirmed: "Regarding Seattle, to best align with anticipated demand, we’ve made the decision to transition service between Boston and Seattle to summer-seasonal, when demand is strongest, effective October 25, 2025. We will continue to offer summer seasonal service between Seattle and New York’s JFK, as well."

These strategic adjustments indicate JetBlue's focus on capturing leisure-oriented travelers rather than business travelers due to rising operational costs and intense competition. While withdrawing from Miami and scaling back in Seattle, JetBlue plans to expand its network by adding new destinations such as Traverse City.
