In May 2025, Qatar Airways entered into a $96 billion agreement with Boeing to purchase 210 widebody jets, including options for 50 more. The order consists of 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 Boeing 777-9s. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner offers engine choices between the General Electric GEnx or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 high-bypass turbofans, while the upcoming Boeing 777X will exclusively use General Electric GE9X engines.

The contract is expected to support jobs across various states in the United States, as well as in Canada and Europe due to the international nature of aircraft production. President Trump and the Sheikh of Qatar ceremonially witnessed the signing during Trump's visit to Qatar in May 2025.

Boeing claims that this order will sustain nearly 400,000 jobs in the United States. However, details on how this figure is calculated remain unclear. The deal includes additional orders for both models and undisclosed orders previously listed as unidentified by Boeing.

Qatar Airways' fleet already ranks among the largest widebody fleets globally. This new order further solidifies its preference for Boeing aircraft while maintaining a mix with Airbus planes.

As part of this deal, an agreement was signed with GE Aerospace for over 400 engines—60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines included—marking it as GE Aerospace's largest widebody engine purchase ever. These agreements underscore "GE Aerospace’s commitment to Qatar’s thriving aviation industry."

The General Electric GEnx has emerged as a popular choice for powering two-thirds of all operational Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Meanwhile, corrosion issues have made Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 less favored.

This order from Qatar Airways provides significant benefits to GE Aerospace employees in Alabama and other states where facilities are located. Around 20,000 GE jobs are anticipated to benefit from this transaction across various sites nationwide.

Globally involved supply chains characterize modern commercial aircraft manufacturing processes. As such, these orders have far-reaching impacts beyond national borders involving thousands of suppliers worldwide.
