Delta Air Lines has announced it will resume flights to Hong Kong from Los Angeles next June, marking the first time since 2018 that the airline will serve this route. This move comes as Delta expands its international long-haul nonstop network from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to eight cities, surpassing United Airlines in this category.

Delta is currently the largest operator at LAX by aircraft movements. The addition of Hong Kong increases its nonstop destinations from Southern California to eight cities. However, when including one-stop long-haul cities, United Airlines maintains a larger network.

Alongside Hong Kong, Delta will also introduce a new route to Melbourne. This will be Delta's longest route from Los Angeles and the third-longest across its entire network. The service will operate three times weekly using the Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

Other destinations served by Delta's A350-900 from LAX include Auckland, Brisbane, Paris, Shanghai, Sydney, and Tokyo. Notably absent now is Papeete in Tahiti; Delta discontinued this seasonal service on June 7 due to low passenger numbers and competition.

United Airlines offers non-stop services to seven cities but includes additional destinations with one-stop flights. From October, United plans to serve Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City via Hong Kong and Cebu via Tokyo Narita.
