Alaska Airlines' Atmos Rewards loyalty program, previously known as Mileage Plan, is making notable changes to its airline partnerships. The company will end its partnership with LATAM and scale back its relationship with Singapore Airlines, limiting the ability of members to earn and redeem points on these carriers.

The partnership with LATAM, which has allowed U.S.-based travelers to use Atmos Rewards points for flights to South America, will conclude on October 1. Award redemptions such as one-way business-class flights between Miami International Airport and Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport have been among the more valuable options in the program. After October 1, no further LATAM redemptions will be available through Atmos Rewards.

“Tickets purchased on or before Aug. 31 and flown by LATAM will continue to accrue Atmos Rewards points under the current earning structure, regardless of the date of travel. Atmos Rewards members can also still earn Atmos Rewards points for tickets issued between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30 when flying LATAM, but travel must be completed by Dec. 31.”

Starting October 1, new reservations with LATAM—and all travel after December 31—will not qualify for mileage accrual through Atmos Rewards. The change also affects LATAM Pass program members who credit Alaska Airlines flights.

LATAM maintains a joint venture with Delta Air Lines, which is seeking to expand its market share at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Alaska Airlines’ hub.

The changes involving Singapore Airlines are less abrupt but still significant. While Alaska will not fully end its relationship with Singapore Airlines, many benefits associated with the partnership are being reduced.

“Tickets purchased through Aug. 31 that are operated by Singapore Airlines will continue to earn Atmos Rewards points at the existing accrual rates, regardless of when the travel actually takes place. Atmos Rewards points can also still be earned for reservations made on or after Sept. 1, but only for journeys on Singapore Airlines completed by Dec. 31.”

After September 1 for travel beyond December 31, members can only earn points if they book directly with Alaska.

Singapore Airlines continues to operate flights in and out of Seattle.

Despite these reductions in partner benefits—especially affecting routes to South America and Southeast Asia—Alaska has expanded its roster of airline partners since first adding LATAM and Singapore Airlines by bringing in several Oneworld alliance airlines (https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines).
