John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York is set to see significant upgrades with the opening of a new Terminal One next year. The new terminal will replace the current Terminal 1 and aims to improve amenities for passengers, particularly those seeking lounge access.

Among the six lounges planned for the first phase of construction, two will be common-use lounges not tied to any specific airline. Plaza Premium Group has announced it will operate both spaces: one located airside (past security) and another landside (before security), which is uncommon for U.S. airports.

The airside facility, called the Plaza Premium First lounge, covers 9,300 square feet and will operate around the clock. It will feature a la carte dining with menus inspired by local cuisine, a bar area, and an "Infinity Room," which is Plaza Premium’s most exclusive offering that was first introduced in Hong Kong.

"First-class flyers on select airlines will presumably have access to this exclusive space, but lounge access policies are still being finalized," Plaza Premium told TPG.

Access may also be available through day passes or Priority Pass membership, as seen in other Plaza Premium locations.

The arrivals-area lounge, named the Plaza Premium Lounge, spans 4,200 square feet and offers showers for travelers looking to freshen up after long flights before heading into New York City. This lounge could also benefit departing passengers who arrive before check-in opens.

"Plaza Premium mentions that departing travelers who arrive before check-in opens might be interested in hanging out in this lounge. As mentioned, access details are still being finalized, but it'd be great to see airlines with early morning arrivals team up with Plaza Premium to offer their business-class flyers access to the space after landing."

This arrivals facility is expected to become JFK’s only arrivals lounge and could be among the very few such lounges across U.S. airports. Arrivals lounges are more commonly found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East where they cater mainly to business travelers.

"In fact, this will become JFK's only arrivals lounge and one of, if not the only, across the U.S."

Plaza Premium Group also plans a meet-and-greet service for travelers seeking concierge-style assistance at JFK’s new terminal.

Beyond these common-use lounges from Plaza Premium Group, three airline-branded lounges are confirmed: Korean Air (16,000 square feet), Qatar Airways (15,000 square feet), and Turkish Airlines (11,000 square feet). Another airline lounge is expected but has not yet been announced; there will not be any credit card-branded lounges when Terminal One opens.

The terminal project forms part of a $19 billion modernization effort by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at JFK Airport. This includes two new terminals as well as upgrades to existing ones along with improved ground transportation facilities and roadway systems.
