Ethiopian Airlines announced on X that it will begin daily flights to and from Sharjah on October 26, 2025, expanding travel options in the region.

According to Gulf News, Sharjah International Airport welcomed more than 13 million passengers in 2022, highlighting its growing role in the UAE’s aviation sector. The airport has been investing heavily in infrastructure to increase capacity and improve passenger services, making it a competitive hub alongside Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Ethiopian Airlines’ new daily flights will connect East Africa to this expanding airport, giving travelers more options for entering the UAE.

Statista reports that the UAE handled over 101 million passengers across its airports in 2022, reaffirming its position as one of the busiest aviation markets worldwide. While Dubai International Airport remains the dominant hub, Sharjah has been attracting airlines seeking an alternative entry point into the region. Ethiopian Airlines’ decision to begin daily flights to Sharjah reflects a strategy to capture travelers heading to northern Emirates and beyond.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that air traffic between the Middle East and Africa rose by more than 25 percent year-over-year in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. This rapid growth demonstrates the importance of stronger regional connections for both business and leisure travelers. Ethiopian Airlines’ launch of daily Sharjah flights positions it to benefit from rising passenger demand linking Africa and the Gulf states.

Ethiopian Airlines, founded in 1945 and headquartered in Addis Ababa, is the largest airline in Africa by fleet size, destinations, and passengers carried. According to its corporate profile, the airline operates more than 130 international destinations across five continents and is a member of the Star Alliance. It has earned recognition for efficiency and service quality, making it a central player in connecting Africa with global markets.
