Despite ongoing political tensions between Canada and the United States, Air Canada continues to maintain a significant presence in transborder air travel. According to data from aviation analytics company Cirium, Air Canada has scheduled 10,356 flights between the two countries this month, providing over 1.2 million seats and more than 1.3 billion available seat miles (ASMs).

Most of these operations rely on regional jets, with only about 40%—or 4,175 flights—marketed as mainline Air Canada services. The majority of these are operated by narrowbody aircraft such as the Airbus A220, A320 family, and Boeing 737s. However, a select number of routes are served by widebody aircraft including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330.

This month, Air Canada's most frequent widebody transborder route is between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where the Boeing 787-8 operates daily until October 25 before being replaced for the winter schedule. The airline also deploys its Boeing 787-8 on a single round trip between Montréal (YUL) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) at the end of October.

Air Canada commented on its Dreamliner operations: "Five years ago, we introduced our Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on two routes with a dream of flying the flag to places we’d never been before. Today, those two routes have grown to 31 across five continents, with 35 Dreamliners travelling the globe daily, serving customers in 27 languages."

The Airbus A330-300 will operate three different US corridors in October: Montréal–Fort Lauderdale; Toronto–Fort Lauderdale; and Montréal–Los Angeles. The type is especially prominent after October 26 when it takes over some Florida-bound flights coinciding with the start of IATA's Winter Schedule.

Meanwhile, starting October 25—the onset of IATA's Winter Schedule—the mid-sized Boeing 787-9 will be deployed daily between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Vancouver (YVR). Eastbound flights take just over five hours while westbound journeys are scheduled for nearly six hours.

Both variants of Air Canada's Dreamliners feature three-class configurations but differ in capacity: The larger Boeing 787-9 can accommodate up to 298 passengers compared to the smaller -8 variant’s seating arrangement.
