A JetBlue passenger is suing the airline for $1.5 million after allegedly suffering "disfiguring burns" when hot water was spilled on her during turbulence. The incident occurred on May 15th aboard JetBlue Flight 2237 from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Tahjana Lewis, the passenger involved, has filed a complaint in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut. She alleges that JetBlue "failed to provide her with reasonably safe traveling conditions." According to the complaint, a cabin crew member was serving a drink to another passenger when turbulence struck, causing them to spill hot water onto Lewis. This reportedly resulted in second and third-degree burns.

Lewis claims that the cabin crew did not administer first aid and instead advised her to seek medical attention upon landing in Hartford. The complaint, submitted on June 24th, states that Lewis has experienced scarring, mental anguish, and anxiety due to the incident.

JetBlue operates twice daily flights between Orlando and Hartford and faces competition on this route from Breeze Airways and Southwest Airlines. Orlando International Airport serves as a major hub for JetBlue with more than 20 destinations across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

This lawsuit comes amid increased media coverage of turbulence-related incidents in aviation. In May, a Singapore Airlines flight diverted after encountering severe turbulence resulting in a fatality. Last month, an Air Europa Boeing 787 also faced severe turbulence leading to an emergency landing in Brazil.

The outcome of Lewis's case against JetBlue remains uncertain as it progresses through the legal system.
