Singapore Airlines has announced the termination of its Houston-Manchester route, effective April 1, 2025, citing consistently low passenger loads as a primary reason for the decision. The airline had initially launched service to Houston in summer 2008 with a one-stop flight via Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Singapore. In October 2016, this route was altered to operate via Manchester, U.K.

The airline currently operates non-stop flights from New York JFK, Newark, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle to Singapore. Additionally, it offers 'fifth freedom routes' from New York JFK to Frankfurt and Los Angeles to Tokyo Narita. The Houston-Manchester leg had been part of these services but will now be discontinued.

The decline in the oil and gas markets negatively impacted the Houston service. As a result, Singapore Airlines switched its connecting city to Manchester in an attempt to maintain viability. Initially serviced by a Boeing 777-300ER, this flight transitioned to an Airbus A350 in 2017.

Despite a partnership with United Airlines that has often been described as "frosty," connections through Houston still required three flights before reaching destinations beyond Singapore. This logistical challenge contributed further to the underperformance of the route.

Sean M., an aviation enthusiast on Twitter (@SeanM1997), noted: “Singapore Airlines will drop its Manchester – Houston route from 1 April 2025. The airline will maintain 5x weekly flights between Singapore and Manchester while increasing the Singapore – London Gatwick service to daily.”

Although award availability on the Houston-Manchester flight was favorable for travelers seeking rewards seats, the continuation of only the Manchester-Singapore leg is unsurprising given higher demand on that segment.
