Amazon Air Hub on hurricane relief efforts: ‘Deploying our resources to deliver essential items’

Andre Woodson, a spokesperson for Amazon, said Amazon's Air Hub in Kentucky is "deploying our resources to deliver essential items" in support of hurricane relief efforts after Hurricane Milton. 

“The devastation caused by these storms has been both alarming and heartbreaking,” said Amazon’s Andre Woodson. “And that’s precisely why we mobilized Amazon’s Disaster Relief & Response team to support impacted communities.

“Following Milton’s impact, the temporary lack of fuel and debris cleanup process are impacting the transport of critical supplies to the storm-affected region, resulting in Amazon relying on its Air Network’s infrastructure in Northern Kentucky to take action to aid communities by deploying our resources to deliver essential items," said Woodson.

Hurricane Milton, which made landfall as a Category 3 storm, caused widespread disruptions across Florida, leading to power outages, damage, and rescues, AP News reported. The storm triggered dozens of tornadoes, leaving behind damaged homes, vehicles, and infrastructure, and resulted in at least eight fatalities. 

Communities are now focusing on cleanup and restoration, with teams working to clear debris and restore power to millions still affected. Notable stories include the rescue of 340 people, safe conditions for animals at Tampa's zoo and aquarium, and the reopening of infrastructure.

Recently, Amazon transported 100 pallets of donated relief supplies, totaling over 35,000 pounds, from its Amazon Air site in Cincinnati to Lakeland, Florida, according to the Northern Kentucky Tribune. The items included flood mitigation kits, water filtration systems, shelter kits, hygiene supplies, baby products, and more. Nonprofit disaster relief partners, including the American Red Cross, Save the Children, and Good360 were able to receive essential supplies within 72 hours of requests. 

Additionally, Amazon’s Tampa fulfillment center has established a temporary bulk pickup location to streamline the sorting and fast dispatch of donated relief items. With over 1.65 million essential items delivered across the region, the company continues to provide support to relief efforts, utilizing its logistics network and innovative technologies.
