Delta Air Lines has once again partnered with Breast Care International (BCI) for the annual "Walk for the Cure" event in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, Ghana. This marks the eighth consecutive year of collaboration aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting early detection and treatment.

The event, themed “Together We Can Change the Narrative About Cancers in Africa,” attracted thousands of participants, including survivors, healthcare professionals, and advocates. It serves as a platform to advance breast cancer prevention through education and improved access to treatment.

Benita Ogbonna, a breast cancer survivor of nearly seven years, shared her journey: “So, this thing is survivable,” she said. “I had this mindset that once it’s cancer, the person is dying. I did all the treatments, and it was worth it. Today, I am alive and free from cancer.”

Ahead of the walk, Delta participated in BCI's fundraising event in Accra and supported a groundbreaking ceremony for the King Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence. Ralph Albus, Director of Global Communications at Delta Air Lines stated: “We are proud to join BCI in raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting the life-saving importance of early detection."

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, President of Breast Care International emphasized the increasing number of breast cancer cases in Ghana: “Before 2020, we saw 1,800 deaths out of 4,000 cases each year; this number has risen to 2,396 deaths out of 5,000 cases annually.” She expressed gratitude towards Delta for their continued support.

Delta's involvement reflects its commitment to corporate social responsibility and health initiatives globally. The airline has raised over $28 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation supporting more than 80 research projects.

In addition to health initiatives, Delta continues to strengthen its presence in Ghana by enhancing its flight services between Accra and New York-JFK with next-generation aircraft that increase seat capacity by 30%.
