Customers at Salt Lake City International Airport can now experience a more streamlined airport journey with the introduction of Delta Digital ID. This touchless technology, which began on October 24, aims to expedite the travel process for eligible Delta customers.

Developed in collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Delta Digital ID employs biometric facial matching to eliminate the need for manual document checks. At security checkpoints, customers using Digital ID can access TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID lanes by simply looking into a camera, bypassing the need to present a government-issued identification card. Additionally, eligible customers can check their bags without needing to show physical IDs at designated bag drop areas.

Delta first introduced this technology in 2021 at its Atlanta and Detroit hubs and has since expanded it to airports in Los Angeles and New York City. The addition of Salt Lake City marks another step forward in enhancing customer travel experiences through innovation.

Greg Forbes, Managing Director – Airport Experience at Delta, noted: “Over the past year, as Digital ID has been in operation at some of our busiest hubs, customers have come to rely on the time-savings and convenience it provides.” He added that they are excited about expanding this service to a new group of travelers.

The implementation of Digital ID results in significant time savings. Transactions at bag drops are approximately 75% faster than standard ones, taking about 30 seconds instead of two minutes. At security checkpoints, passengers using Digital ID move through nearly 60% faster compared to regular TSA PreCheck users due to automated ID verification reducing transaction times significantly.

Following its launch in Salt Lake City, Delta plans to introduce Digital ID at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport just before the holiday season begins. Further expansions are being considered for 2025 as part of an ongoing partnership between Delta and TSA.

For those interested in utilizing Digital ID services, enrollment is available through the Fly Delta app or SkyMiles profile on delta.com. Eligibility requires having a TSA PreCheck® membership along with passport information and a Known Traveler Number linked to their profile.
