Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is set to open its Automated People Mover (APM) with connections to metro stations in Los Angeles in 2026. This announcement was made on October 28.

Automated People Movers (APMs) play a critical role in enhancing transportation efficiency within airports and urban centers. According to a report by the Transportation Research Board, APMs provide reliable, driverless transit solutions that reduce congestion, facilitate seamless passenger movement, and improve overall travel experiences. These systems operate on exclusive tracks, allowing for continuous service without the interruptions common to traditional vehicle traffic. APMs are often designed to support high-capacity movement, efficiently connecting terminals, parking structures, and public transit hubs, contributing to sustainable and environmentally friendly urban transportation solutions.

The Automated People Mover at LAX is a $3.34 billion project aimed at transforming airport accessibility. This 2.25-mile electric train system will feature six stations and operate 24/7, with peak service offering trains every two minutes. The APM will connect the airport's terminals to the Metro K and C Lines, parking structures, and rental car facilities, enabling passengers to reach terminals in under 10 minutes.
