Airbus A320 | Wikipedia

The Airbus A320 has been a staple in aviation since its first flight on February 22, 1987. Initially launched as the A320-100 series, it was delivered to Air Inter in 1988. The A320 family has grown significantly over the years, with more than 19,000 aircraft ordered, including the newer A320neo models introduced by Lufthansa in January 2016.

The A320 family includes several variants such as the less popular A318, and the widely used A319 and A321 models. These aircraft are favored for their crew commonality and diverse capacities, which help airlines optimize routes and meet varying market demands.

In February 2025, data from Cirium Diio shows that the Airbus A320 will conduct approximately 22,800 daily flights worldwide. This represents nearly one-quarter of global flights when focusing on short to medium-haul services. Over 210 airlines will operate this model across more than 1,400 airports in 188 countries.

China leads in terms of domestic A320 flights due to its large internal market. Internationally, the busiest routes include UK-Spain and US-Mexico connections. Among airports, Bogotá emerges as a significant hub for A320 operations.

The top ten routes for the Airbus A320 are dominated by domestic markets. Bogotá to Medellín ranks highest with up to 48 daily flights operated by Avianca, LATAM, and JetSMART. Jeddah to Riyadh follows closely with services from flynas, flyadeal, and Saudia.

While domestic routes dominate the list of top-performing links for February, international connections like Jeddah to Cairo also feature prominently with substantial flight frequencies.
