Boeing 787 Dreamliner | Boeing

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is set to operate around 2,200 flights daily in June, with the aircraft featuring prominently in over half of all long-haul services. However, some of these flights are remarkably short. For instance, Air France's service from Brazzaville to Kinshasa covers just 14 nautical miles (26 km).

"Half of the 10 shortest flights are not bookable on a standalone basis—they are part of a bigger operation—but this does not matter. So long as they are scheduled on the 787, they are included."

Air Tanzania's Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam route ranks first by the lowest block time despite being longer than the Brazzaville-Kinshasa flight. "According to Flightradar24, Air Tanzania's most recent 787-operated service between Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam was on May 28. That day, the flight took 14 minutes, during which time the 787-8 'cruised' at 4,000 feet for a few minutes."

Other short routes include TUI Netherlands' Curaçao to Bonaire and Ethiopian Airlines' Malabo to Douala. These routes form part of larger triangular operations.

Qatar Airways also operates short segments such as Doha to Bahrain. "Like many of Qatar Airways' routes, Doha to Bahrain uses multiple types and variants," with several widebody and narrowbody aircraft deployed on this route.
