Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) continues to rank among the busiest airports globally, but Los Angeles County also hosts two other significant airports: Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and Long Beach Airport (LGB). These airports serve as crucial points for air travel within the county, excluding Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Santa Ana John Wayne Airport (SNA), which are in neighboring counties.
Hollywood Burbank is notably busier than Long Beach, with nearly double the weekly flights in July, according to data from Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool. The airport is seeing 650 direct departures per week, while Long Beach has 335. Southwest Airlines dominates at both locations with substantial numbers of weekly departures.
Passenger traffic at Hollywood-Burbank has been rising consistently throughout 2025, except for January. In May alone, the airport saw a 7.5% year-over-year increase in passengers compared to the same month in 2024. Despite this growth, capacity at Hollywood-Burbank will decrease by 13% in July compared to last year, with Southwest Airlines cutting 38 weekly flights.
