Airline passengers have increasingly reported issues with baggage being sent to incorrect carousels at various airports. According to a poll conducted by TPG Lounge on Facebook, 16 airports were identified where this problem has been observed. Notable mentions include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
A TPG Lounge member shared their experience from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), stating, "This just happened last Tuesday at EWR. The announcement, app and the carousel sign were incorrect." Another member who works in Denver as an airline employee explained that sometimes luggage is redirected due to another airline blocking the drop-off area.
For travelers affected by such delays, some airlines offer compensation under specific conditions. Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines have policies allowing passengers to claim rewards if their luggage is delayed more than 20 minutes after flight arrival. Passengers can receive 2,500 miles in compensation from both airlines, with Alaska also offering a $25 discount code for future flights.
